Speaking To Others
This evening, I talked to Tim, a childhood friend of mine who had the surgery two years ago. He answered a lot of my questions and gave me the name of a great doctor who has done over 800 surgeries without ever losing anyone on the table, Dr. Joseph Colella. Tim did great on this surgery. My mom has told me that she hardly recognizes him anymore. He has lost over 200 pounds. Way to go, Tim!!!
I've also been reading Comedian Basil White's jounral on his gastric bypass and his life afterwards. Basil had the operation done in 2000, and has had great success. Way to go, Basil!!!
While these sources were great for information, the decision is ultimately my own. I've decided to do it. And baring impending death or a rejection by the insurance company, I'm going to go through with it.
Oh, and if while reading this blog, you are inspired to have the procedure yourself, realize that encouraging this procedure is not my intent. This is only for informational purposes. The author of this blog bears no responsibility for anyone's decision but his own. Basil has had some people blame him for a part in a friends' death because of his journal. That is a lie from the pit of Hell. Everyone makes their own decision, and they are the only one responsible for it. Gastric Bypass surgery is dangerous. There is chance I will die on the operating table. There is a chance I will die shortly thereafter. There is a chance I will be crippled for life. These are all sobering thoughts. I have examined the dangers and I am WAY past the stars in my eyes phase. If you are looking for encouragement to go through the procedure yourself, you are looking in the wrong place. From blood to catheters, I'm going to give you every painful detail of this ordeal.
